Calling all Pilgrims of Hope!

Throughout this Jubilee Year, we are encouraged to not only welcome pilgrims to our Shrine, but to go on pilgrimage ourselves. Even our best intentions can be thwarted by the realities of life, so to make things easier for you, we’ve arranged a few different pilgrimage opportunities for the rest of this Jubilee Year. Our first stop: the National Shrine of Saint John Neumann!

You and your loved ones are invited to join our staff and Friars on Sunday, June 22, 2025, as we travel from the National Shrine of Saint Rita of Cascia to the National Shrine of Saint John Neumann to celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi. The cost is $20 per person, which includes lunch and round trip bus transportation between the two Philadelphia shrines. The bus will depart from Broad Street at 11:00 a.m. and will return at approximately 3:30 p.m.

During your visit to the Shrine of Saint John Neumann, you can visit the shrine’s museum to learn more about his life; ask for Saint John Neumann’s intercession at the site of his final resting place; and take part in the Feast of Corpus Christi Mass and procession, led by the Most Reverend Bruce Lewandowski, C.Ss.R., Bishop of Providence, Rhode Island.

Lunch will be provided at the Shrine of Saint John Neumann, which will include time to enjoy fellowship with other devotees from throughout Philadelphia and beyond.


And, don’t forget to bring your “Pilgrim’s Passport” so that it can get stamped in the gift shop of both shrines!

 
 

  • Pilgrimages are one of the earliest and most revered traditions of our Catholic faith. They are a physical demonstration of the faith that we have in the Paschal Mystery: Christ's life, death, and Resurrection. As the great 20th century mystic (and pilgrim) Thomas Merton writes, “Man instinctively regards himself as a wanderer and wayfarer, and it is second nature for him to go on pilgrimage in search of a privileged and holy place, a center and source of indefectible life.”

  • Our 3.5 mile pilgrimage will begin at the National Shrine of Saint Rita of Cascia (1166 South Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19146) and conclude at the National Shrine of Saint John Neumann (1019 N 5th St, Philadelphia, PA 19123).

  • We encourage pilgrims to converse for part of the pilgrimage by sharing their prayer intentions with those around them. There will also be opportunities to recite special prayers and participate in devotions to Saint Rita and Saint John Neumann. And part of the journey will also take place in silence, leaving room for private prayer, meditation, and reflection.

    11:30 a.m. | Arrive at the National Shrine of Saint John Neumann

    12:00 p.m. | Participate in Mass for the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ

    1:00 p.m. | Participate in the Eucharistic Procession at the Shrine

    1:35 p.m. | Lunch at the Shrine

    2:30 p.m. | Free Time

    3:30 p.m. | Depart the National Shrine of Saint John Neumann

    4:00 p.m. | Arrive at the National Shrine of Saint Rita of Cascia
